Carolyn Hochstadter Dicker is an attorney with over two decades of experience practising law and providing business solutions in the areas of bankruptcy, debtor-creditor rights and restructuring, corporate transactions and commercial litigation. She is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Carolyn received her Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law in 1989, where she served on the Editorial Board of the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law and was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. In 1986, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Arabic Language and Literature from Columbia University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and was awarded a fellowship in the Department of Middle East Languages and Cultures. In 1984, Carolyn received her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Barnard College, where she majored in English.
In January 2007, Carolyn established her own law practice, E. Carolyn Hochstadter Dicker, LLC, with offices servicing New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. Prior to launching her practice, Carolyn was Of Counsel to Klehr, Harrison, Harvey, Branzburg & Ellers, LLP in Philadelphia from May 1999 to January 2007, and an Associate with LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, LLP in New York from September 1989 to April 1999.
In 2004, Carolyn was named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer and was listed in Philadelphia Magazine. Carolyn has published extensively in numerous legal journals with respect to complex debtor-creditor, real estate and corporate issues/practices. She has lectured widely on assorted topics of bankruptcy, debtor-creditor, foreclosure, corporate and Jewish Law in various settings. She also served as a Judge for the National Finals of the ABA Law Student Negotiation Competition in 2001-2002.
In 2008, Carolyn was awarded the Chancellor’s Award by Philadelphia VIP (Volunteers for the Indigent Program) for her pro bono representation of homeowners in Philadelphia’s Residential Mortgage Foreclosure Diversion Pilot Program. Pursuant to the program, Carolyn assists homeowners in avoiding foreclosure of their homes by facilitating a loan modification, or effecting other creative solutions that meet the needs of both the homeowner and lender. As a result of this representation, Carolyn has also been enrolled in the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania’s 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 Pro Bono Roll of Honor. In addition, pursuant to Philadelphia’s Consumer Bankruptcy Assistance Project (CBAP), Carolyn provides pro bono representation to consumer debtors filing for bankruptcy protection.
Carolyn serves on the Board of Trustees of Politz Day School, Kohelet Yeshiva High School, JOFA (Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance), the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, and the Louis D. Brandeis Law Society, as well as the Editorial Board of the JOFA Journal.
An active participant in the Philadelphia Bar Association, including its Committees on Women in the Profession and the Israel-Philadelphia Attorney Exchange Program, Carolyn is also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession Committee. In addition, Carolyn is a member of the America-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Philadelphia's Jewish Law Day Committee. Her professional affiliations include the Women's MBA Network, the National Association of Women Business Owners, the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the New Jersey Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference, the New Jersey Bankruptcy Inn of Court, the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Professionals, and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Her alumni associations include the Barnard and Columbia Clubs of Philadelphia.
